In order to evaluate the viability of a floating solar power plant in the reservoir of Murum Hydroelectric Plant in the Malaysian state of Sarawak, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company-Masdar has entered into a Joint Study Agreement with Sarawak Energy and renewable energy solutions supplier Gentari.
The massive floating solar PV project is an important step in boosting Sarawak state’s renewable energy capacity and advancing Malaysia’s clean energy goals.
Sushil Purohit, the chief executive officer of Gentari, Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, the chief executive officer of Sarawak Energy Group, and Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, the chief executive officer of Masdar, exchanged documents at Masdar’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi. Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Abang observed the ceremony.
Countries like Malaysia, which have expanding populations and limited land for business, housing, and agriculture, might benefit from floating solar installations in a number of ways.
Installing solar power plants on water offers possible synergies with hydroelectric operations, lowers water evaporation, and uses less land.
