After four days of cultural programming that introduced Emirati and Arab literature, culture, and the arts to audiences around the Polish capital, Sharjah finished its historic participation as the first Arab Guest of Honour in the history of the Warsaw International Book Fair.
The involvement was in line with the vision of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the ruler of Sharjah and a member of the Supreme Council, whose decades-long cultural initiative has established the emirate as a global hub for culture and a premier venue for showcasing Arab and Emirati culture to audiences around the world.
Sharjah’s influence went beyond the exhibition halls into a citywide cultural initiative that promoted communication between Polish and Emirati culture, from the fairgrounds at Warsaw’s National Stadium to universities, theaters, and cultural sites around the city. Throughout the fair, audiences and visitors were left with a lasting impression by the program, which included 35 cultural events and brought together 36 writers, poets, painters, and creatives from the UAE and Poland in addition to 21 cultural and information institutions.
The emirate’s cultural delegation, led by Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), demonstrated that Sharjah’s contributions to the world’s cultural landscape and its position as a leading Arab model for promoting culture, knowledge, and intercultural communication are acknowledged internationally.
