The Philippines is participating in the “Abu Dhabi International Book Fair” (ADIBF) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from April 26 to May 5, through a public-private partnership (PPP).
With the subject “Knowledge Illumines Our Community,” and under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Abu Dhabi, the Arabic Language Centre (ALC) is organising the event.
The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair solidifies the UAE capital’s reputation as a top global hub for innovation and progressive ideas, according to a news release that quotes ALC chairman Dr. Ali Bin Tamim. In addition to recognising Ibn Sina’s “The Canon of Medicine” on its 1,000th anniversary as a monument to the brilliance of Arab medical thinking, this year’s edition offers ample opportunity to celebrate Arab history. One of the most well-known Muslim philosophers, Ibn Sina, was born in Uzbekistan, and his findings have had a significant impact on contemporary medicine.
According to the statement on the Philippine Embassy’s Facebook page, the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP) is organising the Philippine participation, and the National Book Development Board (NBDB) is leading the country’s 10-member delegation.
Decades-old publishing firms, many of which are run and controlled by multigenerational families, established BDAP in 1979 to solve issues facing the sector. There are now 130 regular and associate members, including internal publishing organisations from educational institutions around the archipelago.
