Trump is Blamed by a German Minister for the Blockade of the Strait of Hormuz

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius demanded the reopening of the crucial waterway on Sunday, blaming US President Donald Trump for the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. In an interview with broadcaster ARD, Pistorius stated, “In the end, Donald Trump pushed the cork in the bottle neck of the Strait of Hormuz, not us, but we have an interest in getting it out again.” During the hostilities that started on February 28 with US-Israeli attacks on Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for oil and gas imports, was essentially blockaded.

Shipping traffic has started to rebound after Tehran agreed to reopen it under a preliminary agreement inked by Trump and his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian. However, Iran announced on Saturday that it was blocking the crucial canal once more due to Israeli assaults in Lebanon. The opening of the Strait of Hormuz, or more accurately, safe passage across it, is beneficial to Europe’s energy supply and economic recovery, according to Pistorius.

Although officials have refrained from blaming the US for the war, Berlin has consistently distanced itself from Trump’s campaign against Iran. In April, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the war was “not a matter for NATO” in response to Trump’s pressure on allies to assist in reopening or securing the Strait of Hormuz.
