Many crew members on charter yachts reside in the same vessel they work on due to the nature of their jobs and convenience. Two crew members were interviewed by Khaleej Times regarding their living conditions aboard a boat. For nearly ten years, the seas have been Captain Chito’s home. He claimed he has enjoyed living and working on the same yacht since 2016 because “we get to go for that trip anytime there is a booking on the yacht or any expected trip.
Chito has one day off every week, much like the rest of the crew, but occasionally his calendar gets so full that he only gets time off twice a month, which he utilizes to run errands like going to the barbershop or hanging out with friends.
Stewardess Jenessa Marcos, who works and lives on one of the yachts anchored in Dubai Harbor, adores that her home and workplace are the same. She explained that it’s because everything is in one location and convenient. “Living on the yacht is incredible. The skipper and crew are like family, which makes it pleasant.
She began her first work as a yacht stewardess in the United Arab Emirates over a year ago. Visitors can arrive at any time for a boat excursion, so her working hours are unusual. Yacht cruises occasionally conclude at two or three in the morning, well into the morning.
Because her room is located only below the deck from where she typically works, Jenessa finds this helpful because it eliminates the need for her to return home after a full day of work. She doesn’t “have to wake up too early to cook food for breakfast or bring lunch,” Marcos continued. Everything is in one location.
