The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA)’s strategy of moving towards electronic booking, which encouraged riders to use this technology and improved traffic flow and sustainability, has led to a remarkable development in the taxi industry in the Emirate of Dubai over the past year.
In comparison to 2024, the taxi industry’s market share of electronically booked cab journeys in Dubai increased by 16%, according to Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at the Public Transport Agency, RTA.
At the same time, Hala Ride, a ride-hailing service, increased its market share from 42% to 50% during peak hours. Because of these combined circumstances, there are now about 7600 fewer traditional taxis running every day.
Shakri emphasised the advantages for both drivers and passengers. High client satisfaction was demonstrated by the fact that over 74% of electronically booked trips had arrival times of less than 3.5 minutes. In 2024, drivers also benefited from a 4% decrease in the total trip distance and a 50-minute daily reduction in driving time.
