Qatar Tourism spending Surges 38%
According to a Thursday state news agency (QNA) report citing Qatar Tourism, the country’s tourism industry grew by 38% in 2024 to reach QAR40 billion, and the hospitality industry topped 10 million hotel stays for the first time. In comparison to 2023, when there were 4,046,281 visitors, the total number of visitors increased by 25% to 5,076,640 in 2024.
The number of tourists to Qatar in December alone was 594,079, up 14.6% from the previous year and 74,000 more than in November 2024. In contrast, Qatar’s merchandise trade balance surplus (the difference between total imports and exports) decreased from QR 60.9 billion in Q3 2023 to QR 57.7 billion in Q3 2024.
Qatar’s total exports in Q3 2024 (including exports of domestic goods and re-exports) were valued at QR 87.8 billion, according to data issued by the Planning and Statistics Authority on Wednesday and reported by Qatar News Agency (QNA). Compared to Q3 2023, when total exports were QR 89.8 billion, this dropped by QR 2.0 billion (2.2%). However, compared to Q2 2024, it climbed by around QR 2.8 billion, or 3.3%.
Lower exports of mineral fuels, lubricants, and associated materials by QR 5.0 billion (6.5%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles by QR 0.1 billion (22.0%) were the primary causes of the Q3 2024 year-over-year (Y-o-Y) decline in total exports.
