The President, His Excellency The pardon of Bangladeshi nationals implicated in the protests and disturbances that occurred across multiple emirates last month has been ordered by Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The decision entails arranging for the deportation of those found guilty as well as the cancellation of their sentences.
The UAE Attorney-General, Chancellor Dr. Hamad Al Shamsi, has issued an order to stop the execution of the sentences and start the deportation process in accordance with His Highness’s directive.
The Attorney General emphasised that the state and its legal system safeguard the right to free speech and urged all UAE citizens to abide by the laws of the nation. He emphasised that in order to prevent this right from being used in ways that could be detrimental to the interests of the country and its citizens, the state offers legitimate channels for the expression of opinions.
Following weeks of unrest in Bangladesh, where at least 300 people lost their lives in conflicts with security personnel, came the protests. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned due to the unrest and fled to India. There is now an interim government headed by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, who last week spoke with Sheikh Mohamed over the phone.
